It's amazing to see history unfold in the Bible. From Genesis to Revelation, the accounts are not only structured into each other, but fit perfectly into the biography of God. This post will focus on Proverbs 10:1-6, contrast the fruits of the simple and the redeemed, and explain the wise shall inherit glory meaning.
Proverbs 10
"A wise son brings joy to his father, but a foolish son brings grief to his mother. I'll-gotten treasures have no lasting value, but righteousness delivers from death. The LORD does not let the righteous go hungry, but he thwarts the craving of the wicked. Lazy hands make for poverty, but diligent hands bring wealth. He who gathers crops in summer is a prudent son, but he who sleeps during harvest is a disgraceful son. Blessings crown the head of the righteous, but violence overwhelms the mouth of the wicked." (Proverbs 10:1-6, NIV)
Folly of the Foolish vs Inheritance of the Righteous
Proverbs 10 was written by King David's son, Solomon, around the 4th Century before Christ came to Earth incarnate. It is a proverb about contrast, more importantly the contrast of fruits, comparing the folly of the foolish to the inheritance of the wise. Verse one displays the comfort parents receive when their children do well while verses 2-3 show that treasure or inheritances gained through ill motives are fleeting but righteousness endures forever.
Those who are fervent or desire to please the LORD, the LORD will not allow to be spiritually bankrupt. They are rich in undead faith due to the deeds of the Holy Spirit being fulfilled in their lives. The wise shall inherit glory meaning can be interpreted by understanding what occurs during conversion. During conversion, the spirit is rejuvenated (born again) and made alive through Christ. The spirit is founded on the blood atonement of Jesus' sacrifice and the Holy Spirit indwells believers. The wise inherit glory because through wisdom of acknowledging their sin and confessing it, heaven will be their home.
Spiritually Barren vs. Eternal Abundance
Verse 5 explains that those who are idle physically and spiritually will reap the consequences. They will be poor physically, but more so spiritually--bearing ill fruit. This is also displaying rewards after death. Verse 6 again displays the contrast of fruits of the righteous and unsaved. The righteous shall be evaluated according to their deeds (how they lived their Christian life) and motives. The unsaved are judged. This Proverb brings a lot of conviction into my own life because there are opportunities of witnessing I have passed up and areas where my motives haven't been pure. Though these have been forgiven, there is still the realization of something missed.
