It's hard to believe that the fourth installment of the attributes of God is finally in this blog's wake. I hope you have found the other Attributes of God posts enlightening and fulfilling. If you haven't done so already, stop by the blog feed and read The Attributes of God, The Attributes of God: Letter A, and The Attributes of God: Letter B. This post will focus on the name "comforter"
The name "comforter" comes from the Greek word "paracletos," meaning "advocate." The meaning is literally, "summoned to the side of another." Jesus told the disciples that He must go to the Father. Therefore, the Holy Spirt would come reside in them after Pentecost. The meaning of this word is in a legal sense to defend, or plead the case for. Jesus and the Holy Spirit are the defenders and comforters.
"Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God." (2 Corinthians 1:3-4).
Some verses that use the name comforter are below.
- John 14:16
- Romans 8:27
- John 14:26
- Romans 8:34
- John 15:26
- Isaiah 51:12
- John 16:7
Many other verses contain "paracletos." The Greek twin word, "Parakletos," as referenced in 1 John 2:1, is used to define Christ as an advocate with the Father. That verse is below.
"if any man sin, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous." (1 John 2:1, ESV).

Speak up for Those that Can't Speak for ThemselvesProverbs 31:8-9 states "Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for those who are left without help. Speak up and judge fairly; defend the rights of the poor and needy." Now entering into T-shirt designing, my aim is to use 8-10% of the proceeds to give to organizations like The Exodus Road and Agape International Missions to combat human trafficking. In places such as Cambodia, poverty strikes families to the core. They often will sell their children to keep their standard of living. See the products at the links below. Unfailing Love
